Tomatoes are among the most popular and rewarding crops to grow, whether you have a small balcony pot or acres of farmland. It is a warm-season crop that requires specific care to produce a bountiful, juicy harvest.

Home Gardening (Kitchen Garden / Pots)

Growing tomatoes at home is mainly for fresh, chemical-free consumption. The focus is on maximizing yield in limited space.

Growing Season in India:

- North India: Sow seeds in August-September for the winter crop and January-February for the spring/summer crop.
- South India: Round-the-year cultivation is possible, but the best yields come from June-July and November-December.

Soil:
- Use a light, well-draining potting mix. A good recipe is 40% garden soil + 40% organic compost (like vermicompost) + 20% coco peat or sand.
- Soil pH: Ideal range is 6.0 to 6.8 (slightly acidic).
Water:
- Water regularly to keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Irregular watering leads to cracked fruits and blossom end rot. Water at the base of the plant to avoid wetting the leaves (which causes fungal diseases).

Temperature:
